Greatings Kultists

Hope you're doing well and enjoying the BETA PDFs of Deep Waters and The Seeker's Testament. A huge thanks to everyone leaving comments and helping us refine and improve the books.

For The Seeker's Testament, we're updating several atmospheric art pieces from the core rules to give it a fresh feel. We wanted them to be similar to the ones in the core book but still have a some difference in detail. Anton Kuzko, who created the original art a decade ago, has revisited and updated several pieces. Here are two of them that portrays Elysium:

Towards the end of the month, we'll be releasing The Illusion and the Borderland BETA PDF. We're really looking forward to hearing what you think!

September Development Update (First BETA PDFs!)

A glimpse into the force behind The Hour of the Flame

Greetings, Kultists! We hope all is well on your side of the veil. This month’s update is a short and simple one, so let’s get right to it.

The BETA PDFs for Deep Waters (solo gamebook)and The Seeker’s Testament (player’s guide) are now available. You should find the download links in your email or Backerkit account. If you did not receive them, you can still access them through Backerkit. We hope you enjoy exploring these.

Both files include links where you can leave your feedback. Your input helps us refine the final product and is greatly appreciated. For now we're hunting typos, layout inconsistencies, text formatting errors, and the like. Feel free to point these out in the Google Drive link.

How to leave comments: In Google Drive you can select an area of the PDF and add a message. You will also see if someone else has already commented on the same spot, which helps prevent duplicate reports.

[Edit: The BETA PDFs for Deep Waters and The Seeker's Testament are only available to those who got them.]

Did not get the Backerkit survey? Please email us at [email protected]so we can assist. If possible, use the same Kickstarter (or Backerkit) email to make it easier for us to verify your account and pledge.

It’s the same file, so you can download either one. The duplicate happened because of how the system handles uploads. It confused me (Gabe) at first and I figured it was better to send it twice than risk nothing going through. We’ve taken note of it, and it shouldn’t happen again. Big thanks to everyone who helped clear it up on Discord!

Ahead and Beyond

Our current plan is to release one BETA PDF each month. This allows us time to review (and implement) your feedback and finalize the other projects. Next month (October 2025) we plan to share The Illusion and the Borderlands, so keep your eyes peeled!

In addition, new artwork continues to arrive, with many more pieces still in progress. Here's a glimpse of what lies beyond the veil! <This wouldn't be a proper monthly update without an art sneak peek, would it?>

That is all for this update.

Thank you for your continued support.

Until next time!

August Development Update
7 months ago – Wed, Aug 27, 2025 at 03:03:56 PM

Things are brewing in the Kult labyrinths

The summer has been hot and unforgiving in Sweden, but now autumn is approaching with its dark and cold nights, rain, and RPG-suitable weather. And we in the team are experiencing Creativity in the Borderland of Madness!

It is a hectic time, editing, doing the layout, adding material, ordering artworks, tweaking things, testing things While many books have been in development for years, the final additions are often the most crucial. During final edits, sometimes during layout, we realize something feels off, something is missing, or we get an idea for tying everything together.

For example, during the last edits of the Borderlands of Inferno chapter (from The Illusion and the Borderlands-book), we discovered two concepts that strengthened this chapter considerably, expanding it to 34 pages in layout. We use "discovered" because we feel that creating material for Kult involves discovering the setting, uncovering mysteries and theories about how things work within the grand machinery. It's rewarding but also stressful, especially when you make these discoveries late in the process and feel "This really should be included in the book." Regardless, the Gut Feel we have is that we are really delivering something good and we look forward when you can read it and we can hear your thoughts.

Speaking of that! In September, we'll send out the first BETA-PDFs to backers. The first releases will be The Seeker's Testament and Deep Waters

The Seeker's Testament

The Seeker's Testament is the Player's Guide. It includes everything you need to create a Sleeper or Aware player character without revealing the backstory and mysteries of the setting. It also includes expansive extra material for building relations, living standards, sex and sexuality etc.

But, our goal was also to create a book you can hand to someone who has never played KULT or any RPG before, and through reading the introduction, they can grasp the game's concepts. We've also included player principles for building atmosphere and story, character creation guidance, and expanded play examples. We have tested the introduction on sleepers (non-rpg players) and adjusted play examples and tried to answer their questions and now it feels pretty solid.

Much of the material in The Seeker's Testament material builds on earlier, non-published, texts by Robin Liljenberg, Alex Obernigg and Gabriel Pellizzaro , which Petter Nallo has revised and expanded. Jason Fryer, creator of Beyond Darkness and Madness, contributed significantly to the introduction chapter of the book.

Deep Waters

Deep Waters is Torsten Gatu's creation—the first Choose Your Own Adventure book for Kult. It's designed as an introduction to both the system and setting. Deep Waters will be presented in the same format as the KULT Bible, bound in white cloth with red-edged pages, protected by a dust cover, and marked with a blood-red reading ribbon.

Torsten Gatu also dives deeper into the waters and explain more about the concept of the book about halfway into this video:

If you'd like access to these early PDFs and want to provide feedback, you can still add them via BackerKit: https://bit.ly/kult2025latepledge

Other News

We are hard at work with material for the other books, expanding, editing, doing layout and so far we are having a good tempo. Here is one thing I want to highlight since it is pre-Divinity Lost scenario:

The Devouring Mother Returns

We've finally received the translation of the scenario: "The Devouring Mother."  This is written by Robin Liljenberg, author of Island of the Dead, the core rules Books I and II, and several scenarios for Swedish Kult.

This scenario has existed in some form since at least 2015, when it was played in Poznań, Poland, at the Polcon event. It's about a grotesque suicide that is streamed online, a Sathariel cult, and four broken and haunted characters tied to the girl who took her own life.

This pre-dates KULT: Divinity Lost and was built on an early version of the rules with some artworks put together by Petter Nallo (featured below for you who are curious). Robin has reworked it, and it will finally be released. It still awaits editing, layout, and new artwork, but it's a chilling and memorable tale that is really nice to finally publish!

It will be featured in the Exiled Terrors scenario collection.

The States, Tariffs and Confusion

We wanted to give you a quick update on shipping to the United States amid all the recent tariff news. The bottom line: Books are explicitly exempt from the current US tariff measures, and this shouldn't affect your rewards when we ship.

What's happening right now: Multiple European postal services (including those in Sweden, Germany, Denmark, and Italy) have temporarily suspended package shipments to the US starting August 23rd due to confusion over new customs rules.

Why books should be fine: Under current tariff rules imposed via the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, "informational materials" including books are explicitly exempt from additional tariffs.

Our approach: Right now, we're not sending any packages to the US while European carriers work out the operational details with US customs. Since we still have months before our books ship, we expect this confusion to be resolved well before your rewards are ready.

We'll keep monitoring the situation and update you if anything changes, but we're confident your books will reach you without any tariff-related delays or extra costs.

Messages here on Kickstarter

If you want to ask us something, and you want to do it in a private message instead of an open comment, instead of sending us messages here on Kickstarter please send an email to [email protected] where we can reply much faster.

Farewell and a vision of The Saturn King

Until next time Kultists! I leave you now with an artwork for Hour of the Flame

July Development Update
8 months ago – Thu, Jul 24, 2025 at 05:07:36 AM

A terrible Zeloth invades the July update.

Greetings, Kultists! Hope all is well on your side of the veil. We’re here for a quick developer update:

The editing of The Illusion and the Borderlands continues steadily and some more artwork has been delivered. We’re “playing” with the book’s layout and perhaps there will be a division of chapters! The lictor text has expanded to massive proportions and it might just be that they need a chapter of their own in the book. The Children of the Night, though smaller in scope, might get their own chapter as well since the introduction to the Borderlands itself is quite big.

The headers for the other tales in Scarlet Bride & Others Tales have arrived as well. They’re done by Daniel Comerci whom you have already seen plenty of creatures from. Here’s the header for Trailer Park Blues, by Matthew Dawkins:

We’ve made some good progress in the Scarlet Bride and The Hour of the Flame scenarios as well. The production of Metropolis continues at full speed by the designated team.

That’s pretty much it from the books. Beta PDFs are still planned to begin rolling out at September.

But for this month’s update we also wanted to highlight the amazing work by Lorefall Studios, which is (as far as we know) a small team that is dedicated on putting out KULT content. They’ve worked on a great introduction to the world and mechanics of KULT: Divinity Lost that you can watch here:

You are invited to check the other videos as well, which are all top tier.

Lastly, we also want to highlight this overview and review of Labyrinths & Secret Chambers (book and map pack), by Peter Amthor:

Hope you enjoy the reading of the review, the Lorefall video, and the art we’ve shared today.

See you soon!

About the Shipping Costs
9 months ago – Fri, Jun 27, 2025 at 11:06:12 AM

Greetings, Kultists. There were issues with the shipping costs that slipped past us during the Smoke Test, as you may have seen or experienced (some regions had a default cost of 99,999SEK). We've now looked into it, and everything should be working as expected. So if you've got this error, please take another look at your survey and make sure your shipping address is correctly filled in at the final step, where the cost should normalize. If, by any chance, you're still seeing an error after doing this, don’t hesitate to contact us through the BackerKit support system. Your message will come directly to us and we’ll sort it out.

Upgrade Pledge

On another note, we’ve now enabled all backers to change their pledge tier. If that’s something you’re considering, feel free to revisit your survey and make sure to check for any duplicates! Especially if you originally chose the All Digital pack and have since decided to pick up hardcovers, which already include the PDFs.

PRINT+PDF and PDF

Some PRINT addons have two items attached to them: PRINT+PDF and PDF. This isn't a duplicate nor you are being charged twice. This happens because the addon was set up with two items. For example:

In the example above, The Hour of the Flame [PRINT] has the two attached items. The backer is being charged extra for a digital version, since all PRINTS come with PDFs anyways. The other addons do not have the same error.
